1. Getting Started¶
1.1 What is NTPSense Pro?¶
NTPSense InetGateway Pro (Tier 2) is the multi-zone edition of NTPSense, built for home offices and branch offices that need more than a single WAN/LAN split. Pro adds dedicated management access, multiple LAN/OPT zones, FreeRADIUS authentication, a self-hosted Site Mesh VPN, and a Package Manager for installing optional services on demand — all on the same FreeBSD-based foundation as Community Edition (CE).
Your NTPSense Pro appliance arrives with the software already installed and pre-configured — there is no installer to run and no software to download. This manual covers everyday use, configuration, and troubleshooting from first power-on onward.
1.2 What's in the Box¶
- NTPSense Pro appliance
- Power adapter
- One Ethernet cable (additional cables are not included — use standard Cat5e/Cat6 cables matching your network)
- Quick-start card with your appliance's default MGMT address and admin credentials
1.3 Connecting Your Appliance¶
Each port on the rear panel is labeled and pre-configured for a specific role — MGMT, WAN1, LAN1, and OPT1 through OPTn depending on your model. The label printed on the unit (and repeated on your quick-start card) tells you exactly which physical port maps to which role; this mapping was set during factory configuration and does not need to be chosen again.
- Connect the port labeled WAN1 to your internet uplink (modem, upstream router, or ISP handoff).
- Connect the port labeled LAN1 to your main internal network (a switch, or directly to a computer for initial setup).
- If you plan to manage the appliance from a dedicated admin network, connect the port labeled MGMT to it — otherwise, LAN1 also reaches the admin interface.
- Connect the power adapter and power on the appliance.
1.4 First Boot¶
Allow 2–3 minutes for the appliance to complete its boot sequence. No prompts or input are required at this stage — proceed to First Login once boot completes.
Note
If you need to reinstall the system from scratch (factory reset via installer media), that process is covered in a separate Advanced Reinstallation Guide, available from support rather than this manual.
